v0.4 Update


I have some big updates coming for the game that are going to require me to destabilize the build for awhile, so I wanted to get out a mini-update with some nice improvements.

v0.4 changes

  • Music and sound effects
  • Scroll wheel to rotate gizmos
  • Level switch UI
  • Music block gizmos
  • UX look and feel polish

Emergent Music

Music and sound effects were a major pain in the ass, as I spent a bunch of cycle trying to use the physics of the marbles to generate a emergent sound track.  Everything I did sounded like a chaotic wind chime, so I pulled everything back and am going with more neutral sounds, though you can do some fun stuff with music block gizmos if you want.

If anyone knows any great musicians who have experience with emergently generated music, please ask them to reach out in the comments, as I am actively looking for help here.

Next step

I found a great artist through a friend and have worked out a pretty unique style and vision for the art and the game's light narrative.  We'll start sharing some things on social and here, so keep an eye out.

The next iteration of this game will look significantly different and should be available to play by the end of the year.
